Rio Sucuri River, Brazil, South America

  • The Rio Sucuri River is one of the tributaries of the Paraná River in Brazil.
  • At over 4000 km long, the Paraná is the second largest river in South America after the Amazon, flowing into the Rio de La Plata Bay.
  • The Rio Sucuri River is a well-known destination for snorkelers because of its transparent waters, which have a bluish hue due to limestone.
  • The river and its wildlife are threatened by deforestation, and there are many large herds of cattle grazing in the headwaters.
  • The aquarium’s fauna originates in the shallow water riverbanks near the town of Bonito. Vegetation – both trees and herbaceous plants – is abundant along the riverbank, with many fallen stumps, branches and leaves in the water.
  • Many of the plants growing on the riverbed are well-known aquarium plants among aquarists.

Aquarium conditions: temperature 24°C, pH ~7, gH 3
